Artist Statement

Artist Statement

Throughout my course in the Fine Arts class I was determined to expand my creativity with the upcoming class projects. I’ve spent a numerous amount of time creating these pieces. Most of my work is based on obstacles and relationships that one as an individual has to overcome.  I am more focused on creating a path for my characters than just having them start from nowhere
I’ve focused on creating the path for two wandering souls to unite through the use of guidance. In my animation video two individuals were apart for a short amount of time. The purpose of the video was to give off a vibe of finding love. I showed the journey that these two had to go through to finally be reunited. The birds serve as their guidance to find each other. Guidance we often ignore, but in this case was valued.
Many tend to focus on what’s there but I focus on what’s missing. I like to think that my art has a story of it’s own. It is simply a recreation of what people are afraid to see.
My first large piece showed the fresh wound many of us encounter ourselves going through. I strategize with everyday obstacles that create our persona. Such as fighting ourselves to determine right from wrong and managing to make the right move.
Finding our selves when all there is to grasp on is total darkness and the evil inside of you. With this piece I used charcoal to create the fear in the image. I managed to pull off an empty scenery filled with a girl whose left to save herself, even though she doesn’t have control over herself. It happens; we lose ourselves along the way but there is always someone or something out there to protect us along the way. The haloed hand above her head represents the hope that we all tend to forget.
I’ve drawn out a story of two separate souls longing to be together besides the odds. With this idea I used watercolor for my final project because it gives off a sense of freedom. Watercolor has always given me the freedom to control how I want the colors to be shown. It gives off a raw feeling that the two individuals have gone through all kinds of struggles to be together. And the final results indicate the freedom of their love.
I believe challenging myself with my art builds up my motivation to accomplish the impossible. I believe creating the impossible can serve as a great image.
